FREE INDOOR FOOTBALL ON SUNDAY

03/18/2011 1:50 PM - Hammerheads Rivals Will Play Free Indoor Football at American Bank Center on Sunday

While the Corpus Christi Hammerheads will be playing the first game of their indoor football season Saturday in Abilene, South Texas football fans have the chance to see the Rio Grande Valley Magic open their season against the Houston Stallions on Sunday at the American Bank Center.

The game was scheduled for Monday night in Houston (H& P E Arena) but had to be moved because the owner of the Houston team was unable to complete negotiations on an arena lease agreement.

Chad Dittman, co-owner of the Hammerheads and the Magic, said the game ended up in Corpus Christi instead of the Valley because the State Farm Arena in McAllen was completely booked up this weekend.

“We are excited to kick off the 2011 SIFL season early with the American Bank Center hosting the Rio Grande Valley Magic and Houston Stallions this Sunday. As a partner of the Hammerheads we are more than happy to host these teams and give Corpus Christi a taste of what's to come on April 9th when the Hammerheads take on the Rio Grande Valley Magic at the American Bank Center Arena. This is a great opportunity for the citizens of Corpus Christi to experience the excitement of arena football, tickets are complimentary. It's FREE to get in the door! Just come to the American Bank Center Box Office and pick up some tickets.” says Jim Salamenta, General Manager of the American Bank Center.

Tickets for the 4:05 p.m. regular season opening game will be free to the public on a first-come basis with a limit of four general admission tickets per person. Tickets will be available at the American Bank Center box office beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday (March 18). Tickets will also be available at the Hammerheads Main Office at 4535 S. Padre Island Drive, Suite 30, starting at 10 a.m. on Friday.

Hammerheads office hours this weekend:

Friday, March 18 - 10am - 8pm
Saturday, March 19 - 10am - 8pm
Sunday, March 20 - 10am - 1pm

Dittman said fans, cheerleaders and mascots will be coming from McAllen by charter bus.

“The league and the Hammerheads owners want this to be great football experience and an opportunity for new fans to come take a look at just how much fun we have watching the fast game of indoor football,” Dittman said.

The Hammerheads, Magic and Stallions are part of the 16-team Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL). The Magic and the Stallions are new franchises playing their first season while the Hammerheads are starting their eighth season in the league. Each team will play 12 weekly regular season games through mid-June.

The Hammerheads will play their first home game at the American Bank Center against the Magic at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, April 9th. They will play the Mobile Bay Tarpons at home at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, April 15th. Ticket information is available at the team’s website www.cchammerheads.com or by calling 361-814-7277.
