Make The Nutcracker part of your Family Tradition this Thanksgiving Weekend!

Relive the traditions of a Victorian Christmas Party where lively children and party guests celebrate the holiday season. Everyone dancing to the familiar music of Tchaikovsky, composed especially for this treasured ballet based on the tale by E.T. A. Hoffman. The story is about a young girl Clara and a Nutcracker Prince, who in her dream, comes to life and carries her through many lands to the Kingdom of the Sweets. This magic is created by her Uncle Drosselmeyer’s gift, the Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker ballet was created and choreographed by Russian Ballet Master Marius Petipa and completed by his assistant Lev Ivanov. Petipa commissioned Tchaikovsky to compose mu-sic for the performance, which premiered on December 12, 1892. The ballet was rarely per-formed outside of Russia during the early 20th Century. It wasn’t until 1954, when ballet icon George Balanchine produced The Nutcracker with the New York City Ballet that captivated the American audiences and became a holiday tradition.

The Nutcracker, as presented by the Concert Ballet, is staged by Master Teacher & Choreographer Thom Clower and features guest artists Katia Garza and Israel Rodriguez of the Orlando Ballet. The cast is complete with members of the Concert Ballet Company and dancers of all ages from the Coastal Bend. This year is exciting because of the tremendous turn-out and talented performers selected at the Concert Ballet’s open audition held in late September. The performances will be held at the Selena Auditorium on November 26th and November 27th. As well as, 2 educational matinees performed exclusively for area schools on November 28th.
