Music and film veterans, Mike Gotti-Acquisto and Larry Tank Jones have launched The Latin Comedy Jam, a tour of hilarious proportions, blending situational and topical comedy delivered by the world’s top Latino comedians.
Acquisto and Jones began their decades-long collaboration as members of Hip Hop group Twenty Two, which ultimately served as the opening act on a nine-month tour with LL Cool J. Even after completing their own opening act for national tours and moving on to other business and entertainment ventures, Acquisto and Jones’ collaboration is something they sought to continue. The relentless popularity of comedy acts in a very hip second- and third-generation Latin American community sparked the seed of the tour. They relish using their mix of comedy, music and acting experience on this tour which features a robust roster of comedic talents such as Luke Torres, Carlos Oscar, Jerry Garcia and Dillon Garcia – the four who will appear along with Ernie G, Friday, May 10th in Corpus Christi. Ultimately, the duo hatched The Latin Comedy Jam over what they humorously call the ‘drug deal.’ Reconnecting after seven years, Acquisto called Jones about the concept, which Jones loved. With no time for a meeting, Jones met Acquisto on a city street corner, discreetly handing him cash via a handshake which was half a touring fee and said “Let’s do this, gotta run.” Members of The Latin Comedy Jam – all English speakers by the way -- hail from as far away as Bolivia as well as from Miami and Los Angeles. Each is an independent comedic headliner with significant stage and television credits among them. The roster features Luke Torres, Carlos Oscar, Jerry Garcia, Jill Michele Melean, Ernie G, Johnny Sanchez, Rudy Moreno, Noe Gonzalez and Dillon Garcia. The show features a show host and, depending on the booking, up to six comedians, making for a vibrantly hilarious night of great fun. The Latin Comedy Jam lineup of comedic talents has a string of primetime credits, too. From Johnny Sanchez’s recent stint on The Latin Kings of Comedy to Luke Torres starring on In Living Color. Others have TV credits include HBO, Gabriel Iglesias, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Reno 911 and MadTV, even movie credits such as Happy Feet.
