Men's Basketball Team to be Honored

April 3, 2007 - The Greater Corpus Christi community will join with Texas A&M; University-Corpus Christi in recognizing the unprecedented success of the 2006-2007 Islanders men’s basketball team Tuesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. with a celebration at Brewster Street Ice House, 1724 Tancahua St. near Whataburger Field.

University President Flavius Killebrew will present the “Silver Wave” award to the team. The award is bestowed on individuals and organizations that bring national prominence to Texas A&M; University-Corpus Christi. Also participating will be Nueces County Judge Loyd Neal and Corpus Christi Mayor Henry Garrett who earlier in the day will proclaim Tuesday, April 3 “Islanders Men’s Basketball Day.”

In their first season of competition in the Southland Conference, the Islanders (26-7) won both the regular-season championship and postseason tournament to earn their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
