April 12, 2007 - Brent Kelly continued his seven-game, playoff goal scoring streak On Wednesday Night with the biggest goal of the series. Kelly tallied 13:46 into overtime of Game Seven to give the Sundogs a 2-1 win over the Corpus Christi Rayz and a 4-3 series win. Despite the loss, Corpus Christi will still advance to the next round as the highest seeded losing team from the opening round. The Rayz will face their biggest rivals, the Laredo Bucks in the Southern Conference. The Rayz will begin the series on Monday Night, April 16th in Laredo. Corpus Christi will host Games Three and Four on April 19th and 20th at 7:05pm. Tickets are on sale now starting at just $10. For the first time in the last three games, the Arizona Sundogs tallied first. Ladislav Kouba scored on the power play at 15:41 to make the score 1-1. The Rayz answered when Matt Turek scored from the right circle at 18:14. The Sundogs outshot the Rayz 5-4 in the opening period
In the second period neither team found the back of the net and the 1-1 tie continued into the third. The Sundogs had the best chance of the frame when Brent Kelly hit the post from the left circle midway through the stanza. The Sundogs outshot the Rayz 9-8 in the period.
After a scoreless third period, the teams headed for overtime. Both teams had power play chances early in the extra session but could not convert. Kelly then ended the game with a wrist shot past Vogel from the edge of the left circle to clinch the series victory for Arizona.
Vogel played very well in defeat, falling to 3-4 on the playoffs. He made 28 saves on 30 shots. Wall made 34 saves on 35 shots and was terrific improving to 4-3. The Rayz outshot the Sundogs for the first time this series 35-30. Arizona went 1-7 on the power play and Corpus Christi went 0-7.
The Rayz will now advance to the second round of the post-season to face the Laredo Bucks, while the Sundogs will square off against New Mexico Scorpions in the other Southern Conference Semi-Final, beginning Friday Night in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The Rayz finished their regular season series with the Bucks going 5-5-3 this season versus the defending President’s Cup Champions.
