The musical rendition of J.M. Barrie’s classic recounts the journey of the three Darling children to enchanted Never, Neverland. It’s an adventure filled with excitement as the Darling children meet a Princess Tiger Lilly, the Lost Boys, a jealous fairy named Tinkerbell, and a band of pirates lead by Pan’s nemesis, the evil Captain Hook.
The original play of Peter Pan, by British playwright and novelist J.M. Barrie, was first presented on stage in 1904. In 1911, Barrie novelized the play into a book, Peter Pan and Wendy. The story has been adapted for the stage and the screen many times, including the Paramount Pictures silent movie in 1924, the Disney animated version in 1953, and Universal Studio’s live-action film in 2003.
The 1954 version mounted by Jerome Robbins was originally to have only a few incidental songs with music by Moose Charlap and lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, but evolved into a full Broadway musical with additional music by Jule Styne and lyrics by the team of Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The Broadway musical became widely popular for its stars, Mary Martin (1995) and later Cathy Rigby (2000).
Peter Pan is presented by Jam Theatricals (www.jamtheatricals.com) as part of the 2007-08 Broadway in Corpus Christi at American Bank Center Selena Auditorium Season and is proudly sponsored by The Caller Times and KRIS-TV.
