October 29, 2007 - A special evening is being organized for Monday, November 5 at the American Bank Center Bayview Ballroom to honor the families of Coastal Bend soldiers who have given their lives in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. This event is to remember and show respect for those who have fallen and to honor their families for demonstrating and encouraging the patriotic values to which their fallen heroes were committed. A number of people in our community have come together as a committee to organize this expression of appreciation on behalf of all our citizens. This is a private event (by invitation only) that is being underwritten by some community leaders who wish to remain anonymous.
The event is to honor those families within our community that deserve our special respect. Without people like them and their sacrifices, we would not enjoy the freedom we cherish in this era of global terrorism.
The event will include dinner, special acknowledgement of each soldier, patriotic entertainment, special recognition from local, state and national leaders and appearances by regional/national celebrities.
These anonymous donors wanted to do something on behalf of the community for the families who have suffered loss of a loved one, and show them that the entire community appreciates them and the sacrifices their families have made. We remember, and will continue to remember, their extraordinary and ultimate contributions to all of us and to the nation.
The members of the Planning and Executive Committees believe that while we may be divided on a number of issues, we are unified and share a deep respect for all those who serve in our country’s Armed Services and, especially those who have fallen. This event will be a re-dedication of purpose – to show the community that we can come together and unite on that which is truly important. This event will bring together families of those fallen soldiers, community leaders and young students from area high schools and colleges who can share this message with their peers and communicate the importance of family, friendship, community, and patriotic values, which are those that really matter.
What could be more significant than preserving our freedom and way of life? Without those, where would we be? This event is to appropriately remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and to honor their families.
