December 5, 2007 - American Bank Center/SMG is proud to bring to Corpus Christi, powerhouse rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd to American Bank Center Arena on Friday, February 8th, 2008. The Southern rock band has been pouring out hits for more than 30 years including classic favorites, “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Freebird,” “Saturday Night Special,” “Simple Man,” and “That Smell.”
Lynyrd Skynyrd is composed of founding member and guitar player Gary Rossington; Ricky Medlocke (formerly of Blackfoot) and Mark Matejka (formerly of The Charlie Daniels Band) complete the guitar trio. Johnny Van Zant, the younger brother of founding member, the late Ronnie Van Zant, is the voice behind the powerful vocals. Ean Evans on bass and Michael Cartellone on drums hammer out the rhythms while Dale Krantz Rossington (from the Rossington Collins Band) and Carol Chase contribute amazing background vocals. The band’s original pianist, Billy Powell is the secret weapon flawlessly flying through aggressive solos. In 2006, Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
