April 22, 2008 - Buc Days is celebrating 70 years! This year is very special for all us at Buc Days because as they say in the rodeo business, this is our 70th “go round.” That’s right, 70 years ago the first Buc Days was held on North Beach and it has grown into one of the largest and best events in South Texas.

To celebrate in a big way, there will be an enormous crane lifting people and fireworks to the top the American Bank Center in preparation of the Friday night Music & Fire By the Bay presented by Pizza Hut and Univision. The crane will begin working at 7:30am on Wednesday, April 23rd and will take approximately two hours to get things ready for the Friday Night Fireworks that will blast off above the building and over the heads of Buc Days attendees!

PLUS…
Don’t forget, the cowboys are in town! The Buc Days Miller Lite Pro PRCA Tour Rodeo presented by Sames Crow Ford attracts over 400 of the top rodeo professional cowboys from all over the world to Corpus Christi to show you exactly what professional rodeo is all about. Our rodeo is one of less than 30 pro rodeos in the U.S. to be designated a PRCA Tour Rodeo. The fun begins today and tomorrow with Rodeo Slack (FREE to the public) and then followed by four rodeo performances: Thursday – Sunday.

ADDED BONUS!
We like the number 70 so much this year we decided to step up our scholarship commitment to the youth of our area to $70,000 in total scholarships for 2008. Your rodeo ticket purchase, buying a rodeo program or attending our BBQ or Carnival makes you a part of helping us afford more kids an opportunity to pursue their dreams.

Our scholarships have grown in more than just dollars as well. We have added significant dollars to process technology scholarships to encourage our local youth who aspire to lucrative careers in that industry. Many of those jobs keep our kids right here at home working in some of the best jobs in the United States in our own industrial sector.
